POLITICO.COM : Not only can Obama be reelected, but he is the favorite right now. Why? Because Obama has one huge plus going for him. It’s called the Republican field. - Why Do Republicans keep looking for a messiah to save them ?

.
Herman Cain is a wonderful Human Being and Person, but the rise of Herman Cain in polls shows the Republicans Desperation with their Bad Candidates. Republicans are incredible confused and with no solid message or narrative.

Obama’s campaign staff in Chicago has been doing many things — raising money, shaping strategy, developing a message — but it also has been doing just one thing: counting to 270. Which it does awfully well.

270 is the number of Electoral Votes that the Democrats need for another Obama term.

Who will be the GOP messiah?

Some excerpts :

A CBS poll released Tuesday shows that Cain has moved into a tie with Romney for first place in the Republican field. (After the poll was released, ugly rumors circulated that Warren G. Harding had come in third, even though he has been dead for 88 years.)

So what do I make of Cain’s (meaningless) rise in the (meaningless) polls?

It is meaningless. And a sign of how badly Republicans are still floundering in their search for a candidate. Cain is a genial, harmless dodo who thinks running a country is just like running a business. But it isn’t.

In business, your competitors rarely strive to develop nuclear weapons like Iran (a subject Cain knows almost nothing about). In business, rarely do your competitors have the capacity to clash in ways that could involve the armed forces of the United States, such as China with Taiwan or Israel with its neighbors (two areas of the world that Cain has demonstrated remarkable ignorance about). And in business, you don’t have to feed the hungry, house the homeless or heal the sick.

True, Cain is a man with a domestic plan. Unfortunately for him, it is an utterly hopeless one. Whatever the economic merits of his 9-9-9 plan, it is doomed to political failure because, among other things, it would have Americans give up something they like — their home mortgage interest deduction — for something they won’t like: a 9 percent national sales tax that would be levied on top of state and local taxes.

The art of winning by losing

Some excerpts :

A miserable economy imposes profound constraints on a president. It’s tough to get around the public’s bottom-line desire to hold the White House occupant accountable for their anxiety.

But this doesn’t mean Obama’s strategy is foolish. It just means that if he’s going to break through to the public in this climate, it will be around the margins; there’s really nothing he can say or propose that will lift his job approval to 60 percent. But the 2012 election will probably be won or lost on the margins, with a swing of a point or two in either direction potentially making the difference. Obama right now is in real danger of being defeated for reelection, but he’s also capable of winning a second term. That’s the promise of the jobs push. Obama is making it clear that he’s going to make this his priority for the foreseeable future.

And there are some subtle signs that he might be reaching at least a few people. On the question of whom they trust more on job creation, voters now prefer Obama by a 49-34 percent spread, according to the new ABC poll. And a recent CBS poll found that 53 percent of voters believe that Obama simply doesn’t have the power to do anything about the economy. This is potentially significant when you compare it to 1992, the last time a president was defeated for reelection because of the economy. That fall, 59 percent of Americans said that George H.W. Bush could do something to fix the economy. Granted, a big part of the difference is probably the public recognition that the economy is in a much deeper hole right now. But it may also be that some voters have been persuaded that Republican obstructionism has tied Obama’s hands.

And there are other areas where Obama is seeking to draw clear contrasts with the GOP, most notably his renewed push for higher taxes on the wealthy — another concept that polls very well on its own, even among Republicans. There’s no illusion on the White House’s part that this will restore Obama’s standing to where it was in the early days of his presidency. But if it boosts him by just a few points — or if it leads 1 or 2 percent of the electorate to decide next year that the GOP is too risky an alternative to four more years of Obama — then it could easily save him from being a one-termer.

A winning stategy for Obama 2012 should emphasize the words "together" and "togetherness" - That is the opposite of the Tea Party Boos to the Gay Soldier and the Tea Party cheers to the hypothetical uninsured dying man : Yeah !, Yeah !

.
The Piligrim Fathers joined themselves together by a solemn covenant and I am sure that the covenant and the customs of the colony emphasized TOGETHERNESS and COMMUNITY.

So Political America was founded in a sense of participation in a community. It was not a colony of Cains that say to God "Am I my brother's keeper ?"

So the best slogan, Talking Point and Campaign Line for President Obama is something like :

"Walking Together to Win the Future"

"Together, let's make real the American Dream"

"Let's be Together, Let's join Together, Let's gather our hearts for a Great Mission".

"Let's help our sister and brother. Let's be a living community".

The President should emphasize Togetherness and Community.

An election rotates and pìvots around a narrative, the Obama narrative should be Togetherness, Solidarity, the fellowship of responsibilities and interests, the union of purposes in a beautiful community.

Let the Cain Stance and Pure Selfishness be the Tea Party and Republican Platform. How to make the rich richer and the poor poorer, by denying services to the poor and giving great gifts of tax cuts to the Wealthy.

Obama picking up "American Dream" theme : "Help ordinary families recapture that American dream" - Contrast to Republicans scheme to make the rich richer and corporations more powerful and less regulated - Obama's Narrative for Campaign 2012

.
The president said in an interview with ABC News. "And I think that at the end of the day, though, what people are going to say is, who's got a vision for the future that can actually help ordinary families recapture that American dream."

Obama picking up "American Dream" theme

Excerpt :

Families recapturing the American Dream. Good stuff. Obama is creating a verbal alliance with progressives who have been using the term for awhile, like Van Jones' "American Dream" ("Rebuild the Dream") group. If Democrats can create a choice between recapturing that very American idea that people can realize their dreams for themselves and their families, and the Republicans scheme to make the rich richer and corporations more powerful and less regulated, the party may have a slogan that crystalizes the contrast between Ds and Rs -- on our terms.

Mitt Romney’s risky immigration play

Some excerpts :

The problem is that Hispanic voters are key blocs in swing states like Florida, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, and there is a risk in sounding “unfriendly,” according to Lionel Sosa, who handled Hispanic media for Presidents Reagan and both Bushes. He said at a panel at New York’s Ad Week conference Monday that he worried Romney’s sharp attacks would prove costly with voters.

“In the short term, it’s a great wedge issue for Mitt Romney to beat up Rick Perry with in the primary,” GOP strategist Mike Murphy, an adviser to Romney in his 2002 gubernatorial run, said Sunday on “Meet the Press.” “In the longer term, it’s a great wedge issue for President Obama to beat up the Republican nominee with. So it’s one of these things where the short-term interest and the long-term interest are in conflict.”

Democrats are already trying to capitalize on Romney’s stance — with the Democratic National Committee airing Spanish-language ads, and the outside group that supports Obama, Priorities USA Action, framing Romney as too far to the right on Hispanic issues.

“If he makes it to the general election, Romney will inevitably drop his right-wing rhetoric on immigration. But Hispanic voters, and all Americans, will not forget Romney opportunistically demagoguing immigrants in order to appeal to the tea party,” said Priorities senior strategist Bill Burton. “Romney has committed himself to a hard-right immigration policy that is far out of mainstream public opinion.”

This is not the first time that Romney has been drawn into an immigration-related fight.

In 2007, while running in a primary that included Rudy Giuliani, he launched ads attacking the New York City mayor as having presided over a “sanctuary city.” And he hit him on the campaign trail for having an “open door” policy toward illegal immigrants.
.............

Among the issues that were a headache for Romney in 2007 was the Boston Globe’s revelation that he used, for a decade, a landscaping company at his Massachusetts mansion that hired illegal Guatemalan workers. Those workers told the paper that Romney had never asked about how they arrived in the country.

He also had praised the immigration reforms championed by McCain and Ted Kennedy in 2005. And he had approved of finding a path toward citizenship for people in the country paying taxes, and not getting government benefits.

Those positions have failed to gain traction so far this year, although he faced several questions about them in the 2008 primary fight.

There’s another point of potential friction for Romney on the in-state tuition issue: Perry’s position is essentially in line with that of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who supported a narrow version of an immigrant tuition bill when he was a state legislator. Romney has listed Rubio on the short list of people he’d be interested in as a running mate

Supreme Court starts new Term Sessions on Monday October 3 : Decisions on whether to even consider immigration SB 1070 and Health Care Overhaul are probably about a month or so off - Because the Court has not granted Certiorari on these two great issues

.
And there are other cases to be cleared before SB 1070 or Health Care Overhaul and its "Individual Mandate" are considered ( Obligation to buy Health Insurance ). Those other cases that will be considered first are also high profile and also touch with matters of Immigration or Commerce.

The Court has to clear first the programmed cases.

The fact that SB 1070 was not granted Certiorari ( An Order and Obligation for papers to be sent from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ) was surprising. But I find that the Supreme Court Justices were intelligent in avoiding this Hot Potato. It is a good practice to get more decisions from lower courts, and to accumulate more similar jurisprudence from other cases and other judges before making a Big Mistake.

Quantifying the War on Voting

Some excerpts :

A new comprehensive Brennan Center study said Republican measures may ultimately make it “significantly harder” for more than 5 million eligible voters to cast ballots in 2012.

“These voting law changes are radical and completely unnecessary. They especially hurt those who have been historically locked out of our electoral system, like minorities, poor people, and students. Often they seem precisely targeted to exclude certain voters,” said Wendy. R. Weiser, report co-author and Director of the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center. “After the Florida election fiasco in 2000, it became clear that the rules of election administration could affect outcomes. This time, those rules are being altered in a way that will likely hurt millions.”

“Significantly, these voting law cutbacks extend well beyond the most visible and controversial step to require government-issued photo ID that many citizens don’t have,” said report co-author Lawrence Norden, deputy director of the Democracy Program and former Chair of the Ohio Secretary of State’s bipartisan Election Summit and Conference. “An array of technical moves can add to significant barriers to the ballot. And it comes at a time when experience has taught us there are many ways to improve the voting process and expand access to the franchise while reducing costs.”

All told, the states that have already cut back on voting rights will provide 171 electoral votes next year.

Obama to push his jobs plan outside Washington -- in swing districts

Some excerpts :

President Barack Obama has had enough of this legislator-in-chief stuff, and will press for his $447 billion jobs bill on the road, far away from the negotiating table — and inside GOP swing districts.

Senior administration officials believe Hill Republicans plan to obstruct or dismantle any plan the president proposes, so the strategy now is for Obama to do the hard, slow work of selling Middle Americans, especially independents, on the package that includes payroll tax cuts and billions in local aid to prevent teacher, police and firefighter layoffs.

Moreover, the White House isn’t ruling out the possibility that some components of the jobs package will be rolled into the supercommittee’s budget bill — should the bipartisan panel ever reach an agreement.
..........

Obama will travel to Texas and Missouri later this week to make his pitch for the bill and to raise funds for his reelection bid. Next Tuesday, he will hold jobs events in Orlando, Fla., and Pittsburgh, officials say.

His main message will be that Republicans are throwing political spitballs — and have never bothered to create a serious plan to tackle the country’s 9-plus percent unemployment rate.
...............

“There’s no sense in talking to people who don’t want to talk,” a senior Democrat close to the Obama campaign said last week.

On Monday, senior administration officials reiterated that point and predicted that the outside pressure — particularly the expiration of payroll tax cuts at the end of the year — would ultimately force the GOP to compromise.

The Press says that Latinos won't vote for Obama - They even suggest that Blacks may desert the President - A simple explanation why this is just BS - And some of my experiences with cattle on ranches

.
The Press is always tendentious and partisan. An Old Lawyer always told me "There are not impartial people"..

Journalists are very human and fallible, that is filled with defects. They want a special outcome to satisfy their prejudices and world views.

My intuition and estimation is that Latinos will pest President Obama with impossible demands ( because Mr Obama is not Omnipotent God ).

But on election day, all eligible Latinos as voters will be prodded to wake up, get up, drink their coffee and go speedily to the voting booth.

The only danger for President Obama with respect to Latinos is their beds, staying in bed if the weather is cold on election day.

They will be goaded to action, incited by fear of GOP.

This is like poking the cattle to go into a tank for bathing in a ranch.

I am not suggesting that Latinos are cattle, but I do hint that they are poked by Republicans.
