Future Decades : I expect a lot of bad things in the Military field, like challenges from China to USA in Central America ( Nicaragua ), the Southern Caribbean ( Venezuela ) and the Central and South Atlantic ( Azores ? )

.

Those are bad things for the USA and bad for the best and most democratic countries of Latin America.

What is good for the American Economy is good for Defense.

I sincerely believe that Medicaid Expansion is good for the U.S. Economy

I also believe that the U.S. Economy will gain a lot with the Immigration Reform, and all that people that may become citizens and will also defend the American nation.

Look at the growing tide of insults against the USA from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Bolivia, and never forget Cuba ....

They may seem despicable, but there is a growing story of an Arms Race, especially in Venezuela.

Colombia has been approaching NATO ( North Atlantic Treaty Organization ) and has been well received by that Organization, training air operations with them in USA 2012, Canada 2013 and a micro Training with the Canadian Air Force in July, Colombia 2013

But those Latin American nations insulted Colombia, USA and NATO for that friendship and alliance.

VIDEO : Cenk Uygur : "Michele Bachmann Wants to Spank Obama's Magic Wand" - Bachmann is Topmost in Crazyness and Ridiculous Ideas - It is hard to defeat Michele in Right Wing Fantasies : That Obama is going to create 12 million new voters for the 2014 elections

.
Conspiracy Theory to scare fools over the Senate Immigration Bill :

Published on Jul 16, 2013

"Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) warned Monday that Republicans are in danger of losing control of the House of Representatives in 2014 if they let President Obama "wave his magic wand" and allow newly legal immigrants to vote. And as the congresswoman explained to conservative website WorldNetDaily, the only way to prevent this from happening is for Congress to give the president a "spanking" on immigration."*

Does Michele Bachman have any idea how funny she is? Really. Amid her factually-challenged rant against President Obama and immigration, she noted how the president had a "perpetual magic wand" which she'd like to "steal" and "spank." You make it too easy for us, Michele. Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

House Republicans just passed a farm bill that included about $195 billion in subsidies to "farmers" (read: agribusiness) over 10 years, while eliminating food stamps and nutrition programs from the bill as "extraneous."

.
From "Republicans Nix Food Stamps: This Is Who They Are" by Robert L. Borosage, Huffington Post

Excerpts :

Conservative Republicans have turned the farm bill -- normally a bipartisan grotesquerie of agribusiness subsidies and excess -- from legislation to identity politics. They wanted to make a statement, even though they knew it couldn't survive the Senate or the White House veto. They passed it anyway -- without one Democratic vote -- to proclaim this is who we are.

*************

Forty-seven million Americans receive food stamps. Nearly half are children under 18; nearly 10 percent are impoverished seniors. Food stamps are often the difference between hunger and survival. Republicans famously seem intent on being a party of white sanctuary, writing off all people of color, yet more whites receive food stamps (over one-third of all recipients) than blacks or Hispanics.

This is how they choose to be identified. They will bring the government to a halt to defend against any tax hikes on millionaires, or to fend off the closing of corporate tax shelters. They will vote in lockstep to take the sequester cuts entirely out of domestic programs -- education, clean water, pre-school -- in order to protect a Pentagon budget that remains the biggest source of waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government.

The Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial board, a voice of institutional conservatism, said Boehner’s responsibility is to silence the voices of the shrillest anti-immigration Republicans." The Journal, which supports the pathway to citizenship, says House Republicans should be "willing to debate and vote" on that plan

.
Another problem for the Republican Party is the Great Gerrymandering of year 2011 as a result of the Republican triumph in the 2010 midterm elections, this redrawing of Districts to favor Republicans will paint them into a corner and backfire in a few years, as Demographies that vote for the Democratic Party grow in other districts where the Democrats will never lose

Gerrymandering is famous for leading to undesired consequences for the parties that practice it in several countries, because they divide the people, produce segmentation that later people resent

Excerpt from POLITICO.COM :

"The dumbest strategy is to follow the Steve King anti-immigration caucus and simply let the Senate bill die while further militarizing the border," the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page wrote on Wednesday, referring to King, an Iowa Republican. "This may please the loudest voices on talk radio, but it ignores the millions of evangelical Christians, Catholic conservatives, business owners and free-marketers who support reform. The GOP can support a true conservative opportunity society or become a party of closed minds and borders."

Competition of insults against "U.S. Imperialism" and Spain in Cochabamba Bolivia - Demented Dictators use Grossness, Vulgarity, and lack of Taste against Democratic Nations, including some European Countries

.
Bolivia's President Evo Morales urged European nations to "free themselves" from USA.

Venezuela's Controversial President Nicolas Maduro said about Spain's President "Mariano Rajoy is undignified" - "we can now take him off his own plane to look for the Euros which he has robbed."

Maduro  : The United States is afraid of Erich Snowden - "The imperialist force has driven itself crazy over this 29-year-old man", "The USA thinks that Latin America is their slave".

"The USA dominates Europe".

The dictators were demanding apologies from USA and Europe.

The presidents of Colombia, Chile and Peru, who have strong ties to the U.S., were not attending.

I am sure that many people in Latin America feel extremely embarrassed and ashamed of this vulgar and gross behavior of the best enemies of Free Speech, Separation of Powers, Democracy, Liberties, etc ... in the subcontinent.

Unfortunately, I have to tell you what I think : there is going to be a lot of trouble in Latin America in the future, probably including military challenges and confrontations.

Jonathan Chait in New York Mag : "Small, Unnecessary Piece of Obamacare Delayed". - The employer mandate that the Obama administration is delaying is not a central part of the law. You could repeal it without any functional changes to the guts of the law

Excerpts :

This is not the sort of headline Republicans are looking for. So they are instead conflating the employer mandate with the whole law.

******************

So, the bill to repeal the whole law would fail, the bill to repeal the problematic employer mandate would pass, and then the law would be better, which is the opposite of what Republicans want.

*****************

So, conservatives can rest assured that their fears about the delayed employer mandate wreaking havoc with Obamacare are based on a lack of factual understanding, and enjoy their holiday weekend.

NATO Website : NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow said about Colombia : "As an Alliance of democracies, we are gratified when countries sharing similar values reach out to us" - "Global challenges require Global Solutions"

.
Colombia closer and closer to NATO - This country has been training with NATO Air Forces in May June 2012 ( Texas and Nevada ) and in Alberta, Canada, May June 2013

"By signing this accord, NATO and Colombia stress their shared interest in consultation and cooperation. The Security of Information Agreement does not formally recognize Colombia as a NATO partner but constitutes a first step for future cooperation in the security field.  It will facilitate the participation of Colombia in a number of NATO activities. Colombia has already participated in the 2011 NATO Conference on Building Integrity, which was held in Monterey, California. “Colombia’s expertise in enhancing integrity in the military is precisely the kind of substantive contribution that exemplifies the added value of cooperation"

The Immigration Reform will be decisive and strengthen the USA, this nation won't be weaker but stronger and more powerful. - It is very important to have labor for many U. S. corporations and the next prosperity

.
Obamacare and Medicaid Expansion will also help the American Economy, the Domestic Social Strength and Political Stability.

It will improve the image of the USA in foreign lands, specially in Latin America.

It will strengthen the U. S. allies in Latin America.

And talking about Latin America, we see a lot of dark clouds that announce a gathering storm.

Latin America is in a process of big degradation - Communists use their base in dictatorships of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Ecuador to create havoc in the more democratic nations - This is helped by the "useful idiots" everywhere

.
There are too many dictators in Latin America and too many leftist extremists, helped in Internet by Crazy Europeans that write in Spanish or languages that are easily understood by Latin Americans like English, Portuguese, French and Italian.

The Victim of Choice :

There is a constant attack against the weak government of President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, that has made the great mistake of going into a disastrous "Peace Process" with the FARC Narco Terrorists.

Colombia is surrounded by hostile nations ( except Panama and I have many doubts about Brazil ) : Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and Ecuador ( in order of danger ! )

The President is being saddled and mounted by the FARC murderers of Children with land bombs and other terrorist bombs

But he has done two good things : to sign a "Defense and Cooperation Pact" with NATO ( North Atlantic Treaty Organization ) in Brussels and to receive Henrique Capriles, leader of the opposition in Venezuela

And Colombian planes have flown in air formation with the US Air Force in "Red Flag" operation, over Texas and Nevada, May and June 2012

And with the Canadian planes in Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada during May and June of 2013

Who is going to defend Panama and its Canal ??, surrounded by brutal pro-communist or communistoid dictatorships ??.

Very important Law Journalist Lyle Denniston is somewhat concerned about the "Victory" of Minorities in the U. S. Supreme Court decision about "Arizona Voters Registration Law" - There is a poison pill inside ( prepared by Scalia ?? )

.

I have great trust and confidence in what Expert Lyle Denniston writes, he seems very concerned for this "Liberal Victory" because it opens the door for some Republican and Conservative Mischief

But it is important to remark that Justice Samuel Alito wrote a dissent and put most of the emphasis on a different way to read the federal voter registration law at issue, and spent considerable effort arguing that the road map the majority had laid out for states that want to impose a proof-of-citizenship requirement would not work in practice.

That offers some hope to a Liberal Heart

Some excerpts :

Justice Scalia’s opinion had the full support of Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., and Justices Stephen G. Breyer, Elena Kagan, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Sonia Sotomayor.   Justice Kennedy joined all parts of the opinion except the refusal to apply the “presumption against preemption” to state election laws.

Justices Samuel A. Alito, Jr., and Clarence Thomas each filed a dissenting opinion, speaking only for themselves individually.

********************

Justice Thomas’s dissent was mainly devoted to arguing that the Constitution gives Congress no role in judging who may register to vote, and that this is a power given exclusively to the states.

This decision, in plain English:

The Constitution divides up the power to determine who will be allowed to vote between state governments and Congress.  The states have the basic power to decide who is eligible to vote but, so far as state laws are aimed at who gets to vote for President or Congress, the Constitution gives Congress a back-up power to change or even to override those state laws.

The Supreme Court on Monday made a significant effort to try to sort out how to divide up this power, in the context of deciding whether a state may require would-be voters to show proof that they are U.S. citizens — both to register and to actually vote.  That proof requirement was challenged by various advocacy groups, because Congress in 1993 had passed a law designed to expand the ranks of voters, and a federal agency acting under that law has specified a form that voters may use to register.

The argument before the Court was that the federal law must control, because Congress had specified that, in filling out a federal form, all would-be voters had to do was to swear they are U.S. citizens, while Arizona went further and required an actual piece of official paper to prove citizenship.   The challengers argued that the two approaches cannot co-exist, so the state proof requirement had to yield.

On the one hand, the Supreme Court agreed that, for now, Arizona’s proof requirement must yield to the federal form’s approach — that is, it is enough to register, using that form, if the would-be voter swears that he satisfies the citizenship requirement.

On the other hand, however, the Court also ruled that Arizona can seek permission from federal officials to impose its proof-of-citizenship requirement.  If it fails with that request, it can go to court and argue that it has a constitutional right to make proof of citizenship a binding requirement for all voters.

It was the kind of mixed decision that can sometimes baffle lay readers and, in this instance, maybe even lawyers and judges, too, because the two parts of the ruling did not seem to be reconciled easily.
