VIDEO : Kicking out the Liberals from MSNBC : Cenk Uygur On Leaving MSNBC: Network Told Me To 'Tone It Down,' Didn't Want To 'Challenge Power' - after the expulsion of Keith Olbermann this is Repulsive and Ugly

.
This is the second prominent liberal progressive host of MSNBC that receives a pink slip in the last few weeks.

Cenk Uygur leaves MSNbc after he was told that he was too combative towards "those in power." Cenk had a lnegthy struggle with MSNBC management who wanted him to be more buttoned down.

Uygur said that, in April, MSNBC president Phil Griffin called him in for a talk. Griffin allegedly told him that "people in Washington" were concerned with his tone on the show.

"'Outsiders are cool, but we're the establishment,'" Griffin said, according to Uygur, who said he was also told to book more Republicans on the show. He claimed to have been stunned by the conversation, and said he ignored Griffin's advice.

Analysis of 2010 for Obama 2012 : Democratic Senators Reelected : Tables, Percentages, Analysis and Strategies in the West and Southwest for possible troubles in Ohio, Florida or White Workers in the Industrial States of the Northeast and in the Midwest.

.

If Obama wins Ohio or Florida, then he is done and reelected. If Obama performs well with White Workers ( a good share not a majority which is impossible ) then he has a second term as president. .... But "what if", study the possibilities of having some trouble in Ohio, Florida or White Workers . ...

Fox News Article says that Obama could be reelected in 2012 even if he has some trouble in Ohio or Florida, but he has to perform well in the West and Southwest. Obama has to follow the strategies of those Democratic Senators that were reelected there. They trusted these people : Youngsters, Women and Latinos and had some of the Glory and Enthusiasm of 2008.

The Fox News article inspired me to study the electoral tables and data in Wikipedia. I did that for all Democratic Senators that were reelected in 2010.

U. S. Senate Elections of 2010 in Wikipedia

Democratic Senators Reelected in 2010 :

Barbara Boxer, California, 52.1%
Ron Wyden, Oregon, 57.2%
Michael Bennet, Colorado, 47.7%
Harry Reid, Nevada, 50.2
Patty Murray, Washington, 52.4%

Joe Manchin, West Virginia, 53,5% ( Incumbent retired, Democratic hold )
Patrick Leahy, Vermont, 64.4%
Chuck Schumer, New York, 65.4%
Kirsten Gillibrand, New York, 62%
Barbara Mikulski, Maryland, 61.8%
Daniel Inouye, Hawaii, 74.8%
Chris Coons, Delaware, 56.6% Incumbent retired, Democratic hold, (Winner elected to finish term)
Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut, 55.1%,Incumbent retired, Democratic hold

As in most midterm elections, the party not controlling the White House gained ground. Republicans defeated two Democratic incumbents: Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Russ Feingold of Wisconsin; they also won open seats in Illinois, Indiana, North Dakota and Pennsylvania. This was the largest number of Senate gains for the party since the 1994 election and also the first time since that election that they successfully defended all of their own seats. However, Democrats retained a 53-47 majority.

Colorado: Key To 2012 Victory

Some excerpts :

"The winning of a state like Colorado is going to be absolutely critical and will be to some extent a metaphor for the entire country," political analyst Floyd Ciruli maintains. "If you can't win in particular the Unaffiliated voter in Colorado, that independent voter, you probably can't carry a whole host of states in this country."
..........

Republican strategist Karl Rove put it more bluntly in a speech at a Colorado Springs GOP fundraiser in June when he said, "In 2012, as goes Colorado, so goes the nation."

"Colorado is incredibly important," agrees Colorado Democratic Chair Rick Palacio. President Obama won Colorado in 2008 by nine points. I'm convinced that he's going to do it the same way again."

Obama strategist David Axelrod has said the President must hold Colorado, and possibly Nevada and New Mexico which he also won in 2008, in order to win a second term.

"Quite frankly if he doesn't do as well in Ohio or Florida or larger states back east," Ciruli explains, "there is no doubt that Democrats the last four years have gotten much more viable here in the West.
..............

But the Republican wave that swept the nation in the 2010 elections had a major bright spot for Democrats when Colorado Senator Michael Bennet narrowly retained his seat. His successful campaign provides a winning template for the President in Colorado and elsewhere.

"Senator Bennet won in 2010 because of three constituencies: female voters, the young voters and the Latino voters," according to Palacio, "and the President is probably going to follow the same suit in Colorado."

Call says Colorado Republicans have also learned from Bennet's victory. "Republicans are reaching out to Hispanics, to women voters in ways that perhaps we didn't do in connection with the senate race. And I think that will be a big part of our victory in the upcoming election."

Another part of Bennet's winning strategy may also come into play in the Presidential race depending on who the Republicans nominate as their candidate. His campaign took great pains to portray his opponent, Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck as, "Too extreme for Colorado."

"That race was mean, it was close and it was expensive," says Ciruli. That description will no doubt also apply to the 2012 presidential race in Colorado and across the nation.

PPP: Michele Bachmann takes 1-point national lead

Some excerpts :

The Democratic firm Public Policy Polling delivers a new set of national numbers that show Michele Bachmann is not just an early-state phenomenon, and she hasn't yet hit her ceiling:

Bachmann's momentum continues to build and she's taken first place by the smallest of margins on PPP's newest national Presidential poll. 21% of Republican primary voters say she's their top choice to 20% for Mitt Romney, 12% for Rick Perry, 11% for Herman Cain, 9% for Ron Paul, 7% for Newt Gingrich, 5% for Tim Pawlenty, and 3% for Jon Huntsman.

Bachmann's rise has been fueled by her appeal to voters on the far right- and their skepticism about Romney. Romney has the lead with centrist Republicans (23-17) and with those defining themselves as only somewhat right of center (24-17). But among 'very conservative' voters only 48% have a positive opinion of Romney to 34% who view him negatively, weak numbers, and Bachmann's capitalizing on that with a 26-15 lead over Romney, who's in third place with that group of voters.

Texas governor Perry now feels ‘called’ for presidency

Some excerpts :

Meanwhile, Perry’s shrewd style of politics has placed him in an enviable position, if you’re a Republican seeking a presidential bid. With Perry’s announcement to run would come an immediate shift of momentum. Few athletes, or teams, can claim momentum even before the game starts, yet Perry will give Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, supposed front runner Mitt Romney, or any other Republican with dreams of sweet scents from the White House rose garden a new odor to deal with.
............

Not yet mentioned by anyone covering this developing story is the massive oil and gas industry in Texas, a highly likely supporter of Perry, should he make the decision to run. As most
Americans are familiar with by now, the oil and gas industry knows no state lines, so we’re talking a national, possibly international, uprising of support for the Texas governor who is unafraid to mix religion with his politics, another trait he shares with George W. Bush.
............

With Texas a perennial top-of-the-list state in poor air quality, it’s no secret Perry believes global warming is more closely related to weather variations than humanity’s impact on the planet.

After a legal challenge against the EPA last year, Texas emerged as the only state refusing to accept the environmental agency’s new rules on carbon dioxide and heat-trapping gases regulation.
................

Emerging for Republicans is a dog-and-cat fight unseen in political history. For Americans, higher education, life-sustaining social programs, transparency and clean air will be the ongoing battle cry.

Obama goes to "Swing States" : Ohio is the clear leader, with the industrial Midwest getting heavy attention. - The states that were closest in the 2008 election : Missouri, North Carolina, Indiana and Florida, have received at least five Obama visits each

From USA Today :

First Secure your Job as President, then help to secure other people's Jobs : Half of Obama's visits have been to the 13 "swing" states that likely will decide the 2012 presidential race. Only 16% have been to safe Republican states.

Obama's travels favor 2012 'swing' states

Some excerpts :

When it comes to policy events that focused on the economy, twice as many visits have been to swing states. Outside of the Washington metropolitan area, Ohio is the clear leader, with the industrial Midwest getting heavy attention.

"Travel these days largely is to 'purple' states. It's the reality of presidential competition," says Ari Fleischer, who was President George W. Bush's first press secretary. "I don't fault the president for visiting states that will make the most difference" in his bid for re-election.

A USA TODAY review of Obama's public events clearly shows that he favors battleground states the most, with Democratic states most useful for fundraising and Republican states seldom visited

•The states that were closest in the 2008 election — Missouri, North Carolina, Indiana and Florida — have received at least five Obama visits each. His first trip as president was to Indiana, which he won by less than 1%. Before that week was out, he also hit Florida and Virginia, both crucial swing states.

•Heavily Democratic New York, California, Illinois and Massachusetts get ample attention because of their size and fundraising capability. Twenty-four of 38 visits to those four states included political events.

•Obama has skipped 10 states entirely — nine of them solidly Republican. The other, tiny Vermont, is solidly Democratic and has received just two presidential visits in 35 years. Only in May did Obama visit Kentucky and Tennessee for the first time.

Rick Perry Bloats Job Numbers by Hiring "Undocumented Workers" Hired by Contractors! Plans on Announcing Running for President!

Some excerpts :

According to rumors, Repub TX Governor Rick Perry is going to announce this week that he is running for President in 2012. He has the support and backing of several Tea Party groups and a number of high profile Republicans, including Rudy Guliani. Even his wife Anita has said she wants him to run.

Perry is very well known for his political pandering and being in bed with Big Business. He takes credit for playing a role in half of U.S. job growth in the past decade. What he won't tell you is most of the jobs he takes credit for creating are staffed by CONTRACTORS who hire "Undocumented Workers." There are hundreds of thousands of these jobs listed as "Contractors" on the Jobs Reports (Bureau of Labor Statistics.) These jobs are in: Construction, Manufacturing and Trade, Transportation and Utilities. (Click picture to enlarge report or create your own report on the Bureau of Labor Statistics website)

While it is true Texas jobs are booming, particularly in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, most of these jobs are being performed by crews of Latinos hired by State Hired Contractors. As proof, I invite ANY REPORTER to drive through the Dallas/Fort Worth area and bring your cameras.

Actually, these workers are GOOD for the Texas Economy and I think America can learn from this. Jobs create Jobs. Business is Booming. The workers need supervisors and architects and clerical reports, and on and on... Creating More Jobs! However, the problem is, Perry and his cohorts HIDE the fact that this is happening. They continue to exploit these workers and hide the fact that they exist! Instead, Perry panders to the Tea Parties, putting "fake" sb1070 bills forward (eg: sb9) with NO Intent of ever passing them. This type of political pandering is very DANGEROUS for ALL Latinos! Perry nurtures and stirs up Tea Party HATE implying he agrees with the Tea Party agenda of Walls, Sanctuary Cities and Mass Deportation, when in REALITY he has No Intention at all of ever changing his love for the exploitation of workers and for all who cater to his goal of becoming President some day.

Specifics of the McConnell plan are still being discussed, but the general approach would require over $1.5 trillion in spending cuts over ten years, while granting President Obama the authority to extend the debt ceiling through the 2012 election season

McConnell Plan For Debt Ceiling May Be Final Answer, Insiders Say

Some excerpts :

WASHINGTON -- A key liberal insider and Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) indicated on Sunday that the final debt ceiling deal will likely resemble something akin to what Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) unveiled earlier this week, despite bipartisan derison of the plan.

John Podesta, who runs the Center for American Progress, a think tank with extremely close ties to the Obama administraion, said on "Fox News Sunday" that McConnell's plan is the likely endgame for current debt talks. Nobody in the administration has indicated what they believe the outcome of the debt negotiations are likely to be.

"I don't like it, but I think it is probably some version of McConnell, which is cut the deficit now by 1.3 or 1.4 trillion dollars, get the debt limit passed… and then fight it out next year in the election," Podesta said. "President Obama will frame it and Republicans can answer."
.............

"That doesn't pass the Senate," Kyl said on ABC's "This Week." When asked what kind of deal could be approved, Kyl pointed to McConnell.

"Well, it's McConnell-Reid, yes," Kyl said. "That's what the Senate is proceeding with. Now, the House of Representatives has to make its decision about what it will do. But ... at the end of the day, I don't think there'll be a default."

How the debt ceiling debate will affect U.S. immigration -

How the debt ceiling debate will affect U.S. immigration

Some excerpts :

The reason is simple: unless federal revenues (aka taxes) are raised--and this appears politically unlikely--large cuts to federal expenditures will be necessary. That's not just because of the looming debt ceiling vote, but also because there will be similar votes on the debt ceiling in future Congresses this decade. Because, according to Congressional Budget Office projections, the debt problem will keep getting worse, even if President Obama succeeds in getting the higher--$4 Trillion Dollar--agreement that he is seeking. (House Republicans are looking at a smaller deal, about half that size.)

The picture painted by Congressional budget staff is so dire that even the so-called "entitlements," long immune to even any discussion of cuts, are now on the table. Yes, social security, medicare and medicaid are all on the line.

In this climate, it is safe to say that the budget ax will fall hard on discretionary expenditures. This means that

The Executive Office for Immigration Review will face reduced resources, resulting in longer delays for immigration cases.

The State Department will put even fewer resources into consular processing. This will lead to increased frustrations and also damage U.S. trade.

The Department of Labor's already-meager immigration staff will shrink. Thus, fast approvals of labor certifications for foreign workers may become a thing of the past.

Budgets for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), long sacred cows of those who favor strict immigration enforcement, will also face cuts for the first time. It might also mean that the budget impasse will finally reduce the historically high rate of deportations.

Some of the foregoing will come to pass sooner, the rest later. The primary point is a realization that the current budget discussion is important from the immigration perspective. Results of the budget negotiations will surely leave their mark on immigration.

The unabashedly political considerations of Senator Mitch McConnell, who has said that his first mission is to see that President Obama does not get a second term and that triggering a downturn in the economy by not raising the debt ceiling would endanger the GOP “brand.”

Judging the Proposals of Senator Mitch McConnell

Some Excerpts with Good Humor :

**************************

David Mark Moderator :

POLITICO's David Rogers reports that with White House debt talks at a make-or-break stage, Speaker John Boehner signaled Thursday that he’s open to new options to avert a default next month, including a novel Senate plan that would surrender much of Congress’s power over Treasury’s borrowing to the president.

Could Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's proposal end the debt ceiling impasse? Is it a ruse to make President Obama appear to be unilaterally adding to the nation's credit card?

Could Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's proposal end the debt ceiling impasse? Is it a ruse to make President Obama appear to be unilaterally adding to the nation's credit card?

*****************

Scott Sales Montana State Director of Americans For Prosperity; Former State House Speaker :

A ruse, maybe, a terrible mistake, definitely. The power of the purse strings is clearly the constitutional responsibility of Congress and should be a power that is closely guarded and not to be infringed upon, let alone given away with a fight. The founders wisely designed a system of government that prevented the amassing of dictatorial powers into the hands of one person. Sen. McConnell would be wise to remember this and the Biblical character, Esau, who traded his birthright for a bowl of soup and lived a lifetime regretting it.

************************

Leslie Marshall Radio Talk Show Host :

Sen. Mitch McConnell's proposal will not end the debt ceiling impasse; perhaps a hybrid of that and the Biden plan will. From a Republican standpoint, McConnell's plan makes him a coward; bowing to the president. For others, McConnell looks desperate and no one in the GOP likes that with an impending election around the corner.

For we Democrats, it smells fishy. A plan to give the president more power from a party that wants less government? And a plan specifically from Sen. Mitch McConnell to give the president more power when McConnell has suggested in an interview that it's "his party's top goal to ensure President Obama is not reelected in 2012" and "with Obama in the White House there will not be any true spending reductions passed."

Much like that wolf in granny's clothing standing before Red Ridinghood, we can't trust this plan or this man; this is nothing more than a ploy. A political ploy to put all of the power, as well as the blame for raising the debt ceiling, any cuts ( which Republicans will quickly spin as not enough, the wrong cuts, etc.) in the hands of President Obama.

And that's what makes this "plan," smell most rotten. In the best of negotiations, both parties win some and lose some. The current hybrid proposal does just that. It offers Republicans the opportunity to get the debt ceiling raised without any tax hikes and gives the president time through the election not to worry about this further and protects the entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security. McConnell's plan should be ignored, but his motives should'nt; after all, let's not forget what happened to Miss Ridinghood.

*****************

Dean Baker Co-director, Center for Economic and Policy Research :

There is nothing more fun than to see the Republicans in Congress squirming before Wall Street, as some of us predicted all along. A debt default would be really bad news for the country as a whole, but it would put J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs and the rest of the Wall Street gang out of business, which is why we knew that Congress would never let it happen.

So now, after pushing all sorts of nonsense for the last three months, the Republicans in Congress have to find some face-saving way to back done. The McConnell proposal is obviously in this vein. It raises the debt ceiling without requiring any cuts at all.

President Obama could just treat it as the joke it is, presenting a package of cuts that includes nothing but spending in Kentucky (McConnell), Ohio (Boehner), and Virginia (Cantor). In terms of taking the heat for "unilaterally adding to the nation's credit card," he has 16 months to explain to the country that he is just spending the money that Congress voted to spend. The alternative, apparently pushed by the Republicans is taking things without paying for them.

President Obama can also explain to the country, in terms that even a Washington Post reporter can understand, that the reason we face large deficits is that the Greenspan-Bernanke housing bubble sank the economy and the budget deficit is the only thing supporting it right now. He can also explain that the longer term deficit problem is entirely attributable to the broken U.S. health care system and that he has done more to rein in costs than any prior president.

In short, the McConnell proposal is a great solution to the crisis.

*******************

Greg Dworkin Contributing Editor, Daily Kos :

The Republicans screwed themselves by being stubborn and willful in the name of ideology. McConnell provided a fig leaf as an out. They better take it, or the next fiscal crisis is entirely on their heads.
