Houston Chronicle, Texas, April 29, 2013 : "Republicans in Austin have little to fear in the short-term in their opposition to Medicaid expansion. However, national Republicans, ...., may take a different perspective". - Maps of Texas for Hispanics, the Uninsured, and Vote Margin 2012

.

The counties on Texas South are strongest for these three statistics :

Excerpts :

Waco-based economic research firm The Perryman Group joined Texas Democrats in urging Texas to accept Medicaid expansion. Ray Perryman, the firm’s president, said the main reason for his support is to improve the overall quality of life for many in Texas.

“It will partially defuse a demographic time bomb that could have notable negative consequences for Texas,” Perryman said in an email exchange.

Perryman said the large uninsured population in Texas will create negative economic results in the long-term, just as increased coverage would cause the reverse. Perryman argued that while the state will have to increase its Medicaid budget, the economic boost to having a healthier population will more than compensate.

Robert Kuttner : Austerity is Killing Europe : Spain and Greece : 30 percent unemployment. -- Britain : 0.3 percent growth. Even Germany, the prime sponsor of these austerity policies, is on the edge of recession. -- It is time to throw out Austerity ideology in the Middle of a Recession !

.

Robert Kuttner in the Huffington Post tells us how the stubborness, intransigence, obstinacy and fanaticism of conservative economists is doing great harm to European Economies. That absurd austerity is what congress republicans have been preaching in the USA.

Some excerpts :

One nation after another is challenging German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the European Central Bank, the two lead purveyors of economic pain as the cure for fiscal sin. The governments of France, Italy, Spain and Portugal are pressing Merkel to relent, and EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, the ultimate weathervane, now says the EU needs to focus on growth instead of belt-tightening. The International Monetary Fund, usually one of the sponsors of fiscal masochism, says Europe is imposing too much pain.

Here is the U.S., the first quarter numbers were lousy. The economy grew at a rate of just 2.5 percent, less than forecasters projected, and not enough to improve the unemployment rate or raise wages. Analysts across the spectrum correctly blamed the slowdown on the sequester, which cut the budget by $85 billion this year, on top of the January deal that raised taxes, mostly on workers, by another $200 billion.

You don't promote growth by slashing demand. Supposedly, fiscal tightening improves business confidence. But if some entrepreneur somewhere decided to break ground for a new factory because the president and Congress at last cut the budget, nobody could find such a person.

Standard & Poor’s "sovereign debt" credit ratings : Australia, Canada, Germany, Northern Europe, and United Kingdom AAA, United States and France AA+, China and Chile AA-, Russia, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Panama are BBB

.
India and Spain are BBB-

Those already mentioned are graded as Investment Possibility and Not Speculative. The As are superb investments in "sovereign debt". Note that India and Spain are below some Latin American Nations.

Zambia, Zimbabwe and Venezuela are B+ considered non investment grade and highly speculative. Only the Chinese are happy lending to Venezuela.

Argentina is a miserable B- , and is considered super speculative and most dangerous.

Perhaps that is the reason why the President Cristina Fernandez de Kirtchner is so Chavista and her nation owes many millions of dollars to oil rich Venezuela.

Other Venezuelan Clients : Cuba and Nicaragua are considered the worst of the worst for Sovereign debt. .... Bolivia and Ecuador are considered very poor and dangerous risks.

So you see how being chavista is not good for your credit ratings and your credit worthiness.

Note :

I corrected Colombia, a nation that was upgraded recently. I think that Turkey is going to become "investment grade" very soon or has already been upgraded. I will continue upgrading my list.

FARC Colombian Guerrilas has kidnapped and murdered thousands of Colombian Nationals, also American Citizens, Europeans and Japanese, by the dozens. !! - These nations should care about TOTAL IMPUNITY. --- FARC poisons American Youth with cocaine and morphine

.
The Plan of Colombian President Santos is TOTAL IMPUNITY without shame for FARC, giving them seats in the Senate and House of Representatives without any election. The soldiers that fought with bravery against FARC are starving and will continue starving.

For FARC Drug Production and exports is their main business and source of income. President Santos is a Fool if he believes that criminals are going to abandon this beautiful business. FARC leaders do not control their many troops scattered in many disjoint locations. Many won't accept demobilization.

Those nations like the USA, European Countries and Japan should care about this TOTAL IMPUNITY. Their nationals have been kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Their corporations have suffered extortion.

Both the Paramilitary and the Guerrillas are TERRORISTS and MURDERERS.

But most TERRORIST bombs that kill many civilians are planted by FARC ( almost 100% ) and Land Mines that kill or maim children ( even in this year 2013 ) are 100% sowed by FARC.

Some FARC madmen have killed dozens of their own peasant fighters in a single massacre, because of suspicion and paranoia about betrayal.

This TOTAL IMPUNITY is more absurd and foolish if we consider advances in technology like Global Positioning System and Drone Robot Airplanes. FARC has suffered incredible defeats in the last 8 years, all due to GREAT AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY !.

.

As things go now with the "Gang of Eight" the DREAMERS and Agricultural Workers will be American Citizens in five years.

Republicans made the grave mistake and sin of choosing Mitt Romney as candidate, an ass-kisser to Racists, Nativists and Ethnic Extremists. Can they repent and repair their fault ??

The One Million Dollar Question :

Can Republicans improve their standing among Latinos if they actively participate in the immigration reform process. ??

Will Latinos be psychologically harmed or wounded by Republicans during the Process of the "Migra" reform in Congress ??

And if the Reform is sunk by strong opposition will that undoubtedly and inevitably have some ethnic or racist component ??

If there is no Immigration Reform during Obama's Second Term then the Problem of the Undocumented Population may grow and grow.

It all depends on the Mental Flexibility and Agility of the Republican Party, so that the party is not forever anchored in the past.

Republicans can do nothing and subject themselves to the Trial and Verdict of History. Or they can examine their conscience and change their morals and standing against "The Other" and "The Otherness".

Paul Krugman : Our exaggerated fear of debt creates a catastrophe. It’s ruining many lives, and at the same time making us poorer and weaker in every way. And the longer we persist in this folly, the greater the damage will be

.

Excerpts from Paul Krugman in New York Times :

The shadow of long-term unemployment means that  austerity policies are counterproductive even in purely fiscal terms. Workers, after all, are taxpayers too; if our debt obsession exiles millions of Americans from productive employment, it will cut into future revenues and raise future deficits.

My Comment :

Observe that unemployment is always higher for Minorities and Very Young People in general. This should have political consequences.

VIDEO : Bill Maher, Amy Holmes, Nicholas Kristof, Salman Rushide - Bill Maher against Filibuster and the injustice of Senator Diane Feinstein having 7.5 million votes, whereas others from tiny states go to the U. S. Senate with a few thousand votes

.

The USA has Car Control, but not Gun Control .... Cars are subjected to millions of controls, licenses for drivers, inspections, etc ....

The Filibuster paralyzes the USA decisions, and the U. S. Senate with two senators for each state is unjust and absurd. Because tiny states with few people have the same power as New York, California, Florida or Texas.

April 19th, 2013

Regular viewers of Bill Maher's show are well aware that one of the issues that gets Maher most fired up is the equal apportionment of senators to each U.S. state. Amidst discussion of the Boston bombings and gun control tonight, Maher went on a small rant against the Constitution and how every state does not deserve the same number of senators. He found it ridiculous that a small state like Wyoming gets as many senators as a huge state like California.

The panel was discussing gun control and why it failed in the Senate this week. Maher found it ridiculous that background checks, something supported by 90 percent of the people, failed to pass the Senate. He slammed the filibuster as a "silent coup" but also went after the Constitutional designation of two senators per state.

Maher pointed out that senators from small states are being elected by, and therefore represent, less people, so there should be proportional representation, like in the House of Representatives. "The Founding Fathers could not have foreseen AK-47s, they also could not have foreseen Wyoming and Montana. They could not have foreseen fifty states where we have this horrible situation..."

Salman Rushdie railed against the idea that the Second Amendment allows for unrestricted individual access to whatever weapons they want. Conservative pundit Amy Holmes questioned Maher wanting to reconstitute the Senate, and Maher shot back that the Constitution was not "brought to us by Jesus" and that the Founders themselves wanted it to be amended every so often.

Rushdie said that the United States is the only western democracy in which there are amendments to the basic idea of a simple majority win. When Nicholas Kristof brought up how conversations like these alarm people in North Dakota, Maher asked, "Why do we need two Dakotas to begin with?"

Maher also spoke out against the constant threat members of congress face of being primaried which forces them to lean ideologically way over to one side.

How do you protest against the Witches that are flying over your town, and having sex with he Devil ?? --- And against adultery, abortion, perversions, lewd and obscene people, and "gay marriage". How do you protest against Pervs ?? - Medieval Europe

.
Enter Cacerolazos ( Skimmingtons ), loud noise with pots, pans, ladles, spoons, casseroles, are not a modern Latin American Invention. They were strongly practiced in the USA and Britain. They go as far as Medieval Europe : against Witches, Adultery, Lewd or Obscene People

Cacerolazos or better "casseroles" has been popular in modern time in Canada ( Quebec ) :

In 2012 in Québec citizens were using cacerolazo after the adoption on 18 May of Bill 78, an act which restricts rights to assemble after violent riots erupted in Montreal and Victoriaville. Bill 78, aimed at restoring access to education for peaceful students and at protecting businesses and citizens from violence by some student protesters, has been criticized by the United Nations, the Quebec Bar Association, Amnesty International, and others. Court challenges against the bill are underway.

Skimmington
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Hogarth's engraving "Hudibras Encounters the Skimmington", 1822

A skimmington, or skimmington ride, is a rowdy parade with effigies of a victims or people dressed up to represent them, to make a public demonstration of moral disapproval of the individual or individuals. The form of the demonstration, and the reasons for it, varied between different places, but the general intent was public humiliation of the victim(s). In some cases the individual(s) themselves were forced to participate. Skimmingtons were typically noisy affairs, with rough music made by the clattering of pots and pans.

Origins, history and form

Skimmingtons, are recorded in England as far back as the 17th century,[1] and the practice is also recorded in colonial America from around the 1730s on.[2][3] The term is particularly associated with the West Country region of England, and although the etymology is not certain, it has been suggested that it derived from the ladle used in that region for cheesemaking, which was perceived as a weapon used by a woman to beat a weak or henpecked husband. The rationale for a skimmington varied, but one major theme was disapproval of a man for weakness in his relationship with his wife. A description of the custom in 1856 cites three main targets: a man who is worsted by his wife in a quarrel; a cuckolded man who accepts his wife's adultery; and any married person who engages in licentious conduct.[4] To "ride such a person skimmington" involved exposing them or their effigy to ridicule on a cart, or on the back of a horse or donkey. Some accounts describe the participants as carrying ladles and spoons with which to beat each other, at least in the case of skimmingtons prompted by marital discord. The noisy parade passed through the neighbourhood, and served as a punishment to the offender and a warning to others to abide by community norms; Roberts suggests that the homes of other potential victims were visited in a pointed manner during a skimmington.[4] According to one citation, a skimmington was broken up by the police in a village in Dorset as late as 1917.[5]

The antiquary and lexicographer Francis Grose described a skimmington as: "Saucepans, frying-pans, poker and tongs, marrow-bones and cleavers, bulls horns, etc. beaten upon and sounded in ludicrous processions" (A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, 1796).

In Warwickshire, the custom was known as "loo-belling", and in northern England as "riding the stang".

During the Western Rising of 1628–31, which was a rebellion in south-west England against the enclosure of royal forest lands, the name "Lady Skimmington" was adopted by the leader of the protest movement.[6] According to some sources the name was used by a number of men involved with the Western Rising, who dressed in women's clothes not only as a method of disguise, but also in order to symbolise their protest against a breach of the established order.[7]
In art and literature

The Late Lancashire Witches, a play by Thomas Howarth and Richard Brome, features a horseback skimmington ride prompted by a woman who seeks greater independence.

In Samuel Butler's Hudibras, the central character encounters a skimmington in a scene notably illustrated by William Hogarth.

A skimmington is depicted in a plaster frieze in Montacute House, which dates from the Elizabethan era, and shows a man mounted on a pole, carried on the shoulders of others[8].

A skimmington forms a well-known scene in Thomas Hardy's 1884 novel The Mayor of Casterbridge. Effigies of the mayor and Lucetta, a former lover, are paraded through the streets on a donkey by a noisy crowd when rumours of their prior relationship surface. Lucetta, now respectably married to Henchard's rival Farfrae, collapses in distress and humiliation, miscarries her baby and dies.

:"They are coming up Corn Street after all! They sit back to back!"

"What--two of 'em—are there two figures?"
"Yes. Two images on a donkey, back to back, their elbows tied to one another's! She's facing the head, and he's facing the tail."
"Is it meant for anybody in particular?"
"Well--it mid be. The man has got on a blue coat and kerseymere leggings; he has black whiskers, and a reddish face. 'Tis a stuffed figure, with a falseface." (...)

The numerous lights round the two effigies threw them up into lurid distinctness; it was impossible to mistake the pair for other than the intended victims.

"Come in, come in," implored Elizabeth; "and let me shut the window!"
"She's me—she's me—even to the parasol—my green parasol!" cried Lucetta with a wild laugh as she stepped in. She stood motionless for one second—then fell heavily to the floor.

—Thomas Hardy, The Mayor of Casterbridge

The Skimmity Hitchers are a Scrumpy & Western band from the West Country of England. They took their name from the Skimmington (known as Skimmity in Dorset)to reflect their music and stage show which s a mix of rough music, parody, drunkeness and audience humiliation.

Why Latin America should matter to the Rich American and the Poor American ??? - Questions about Freedom and Democracy but also the value of shares and bonds that are traded in Wall Street and the importance of Trade in the World Economy

.
Two opposite scenarios "The Sinking" and the "Economic Boom" of Latin America :

1) The sinking of Latin America is Venezuela where Dictator Maduro ( and Chavez in the past ) have had thugs attacking those that dissent. Some people have been killed this week while in "Cacerolazo" ( noise banging pots an pans ) by motorcycle thugs that defend the Tyranny.

2) The president of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello is a stupid thug that has promised to kick out from this parliament all the members of the opposition and has allowed a bloodbath in the premises or precincts of that Chamber. Cabello is also very corrupt.

3) There is also big cacerolazo against chavista lady Cristina Fernandez de Kitchner, president of Argentina, because of the corruption, mismanagement and inefficiency of this Government.

4) Chavez and Maduro have corrupted Latin America with their money ( they have squandered one trillion dollars in oil revenues ). Most Latin American countries have become beggars kneeling and begging for alms from Venezuela.

The "Economic Boom" in Latin America :

The collapse of the Venezuelan Government would be well received in Wall Street. All Latin American Investments, shares and bonds would increase in value automatically.

Another Big Problem is Colombia, very much linked to Venezuela, but more prosperous and organized economically as a free market economy. Venezuelans smuggle foodstuffs to Colombia because of the Chavista Price Controls and the hard currency called Colombian peso, while the Venezuelan currency sinks every day, the "poor" Colombia has diversified exports that increase every year at fast pace. Venezuela is ruined and is a mono-exporter.

The Colombian president has shown signs of being very foolish and wants to give total impunity to the Terrorists, Murderers, Kidnappers, Sowers of Land Mines that kill and main Children. They are also bombers, not different of those that killed a child, a young woman and a man in Boston during a Marathon.

After Canada, Latin American is the most important market for U. S. Products, more important as a buyer than the European Community.

So having an economic boom in Latin America is good for American Jobs and for the poor American Citizen.

There are some countries in this subcontinent that are persuaded of Free Market Economics. They are Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia. They have shown economic dynamism and more growth than the beggar nations that receive gifts from Venezuela.

Nothing is more boring than a Dictatorship - The Tyrant of Venezuela talks blather for hours and hours like Fidel Castro, Stalin or Hitler and he mentions the "Comandate President" Hugo Chavez at least one hundred times per day

.
Incessant talk of Hugo Chavez, even after he was given the election ( by his sycophants ! ) :

Nicolas Maduro, dictator of Venezuela, an usurper using months and months of lies and coups d'Etat ( golpes de estado ) against the constitution. Total Mendacity and Hypocrisy !

This guy Nicolas Maduro lives in the past telling constant anecdotes about his relationship with Hugo Chavez and spitting fire and hate against the Opposition, accusing them of being murderers, criminals being "sold to American Imperialism".

But a Venezuelan Housewife already knows that Hugo Chavez is a Demi-God and Hero that is seated in Heaven between Jesus of Nazareth and the Virgin Mary. So that housewife does not care about the sainthood and heroism of Chavez.

She only cares about filling her refrigerator with food for her family. And the problem is the increasing scarcity and poverty in Venezuela and you can not get the first necessity products in many cities, towns and locations.

Devaluation and Inflation are destroying the Venezuelan Economy. ..... The economy is mono-exporter, after Chavez destroyed Industry and Entrepreneurship. He expropriated the bourgeois that he hated and became extremely rich in the process sending his moneys and those of his family abroad to tax havens.

Meanwhile Venezuela is one of the most Criminal Countries in the World with one of the highest rates of murder. Venezuela doubles Colombia in murders per 100,000 people and is four time more lethal than Mexico, even if there are mafia wars in Mexico.

So Venezuela is now a Thanatocracy, Necrocracy and Mausolocracy, that is the Government by reference to the past and to dead people : The Mummy of Chavez and the bones and skull of Bolivar rule and are being worshiped in a Mausoleum.

Henrique Capriles will apply the teachings of Henry David Thoreau, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela : Civil Resistance to Despotism, Passive Resistance, Disobeying the Tyrant.

Venezuela's Capriles refuses to accept Maduro victory

Venezuela's opposition leader Henrique Capriles is refusing to accept the narrow win of the ruling party candidate Nicolas Maduro.

In a speech to the nation he said he demanded an immediate recount and alleged voting irregularities.

"I don't deal with lies and corruption. My deal is with God and with the Venezulan people. Mr. Maduro, if you were illegitimate before, now you are even more loaded with illegitimacy," he said.

"They have obtained a result that was announced in the National Electoral Council, on the basis of all these "incidents" Capriles added saying his team had identified more than 3,000 voting irregularities.

Capriles, 40, had argued that voters were tired of divisive Chavez-era politics, and vowed to tackle daily worries such as violent crime, high inflation and poor utilities.

The Fascist Terrorist Thieves that rule Venezuela will continue in power by very dubious means. - But I have absolutely no doubt that a Big Erosion of this Madness has begun. - The "Victory" speech of Nicolas Maduro can not be more brutal, fascist and aggressive

.
The Venezuelan Thanatocracy ( rule by the death, using the Mummy of Chavez and the bones of Bolivar ) will continue for some time big or small, but let's be clear, this idiotic project of Chavismo has been strongly weakened by the election of Sunday, April 14, 2013.

I don't have the powers of a seer or a witch, but I clearly see that now the path of chavismo is a calvary of thorns and stones until the crucifixion. And chavistas will fall many times in this "via dolorosa".

They will be weakened to support the Terrorist FARC guerrillas in Colombia, these brutal murderers also kidnap Venezuelan Ranchers and Farmers, and practice extortion inside Venezuelan Territory. Chavez always supported the FARC in speeches, gave sanctuary to these terrorists in Venezuelan Territory and funded them.

Thousands of Children that lost their legs and testicles in Colombia with FARC land mines can thank Chavez and Maduro. Many Children, Women and the Old lost their lives in the mine fields of FARC.

Gone are the times when Hugo Chavez mobilized troops, tanks and airplanes to the Venezuelan Border with Colombia and threatened and invasion of the "sister" nation.

Gone are the times to threaten the United States with shooting missiles against American airplanes or ships.

I want to be prudent and I do not want to fan violence or rebellion, because I see that these Venezuelan Thugs in Government are "rolling down the Hill", and from now on, they will be a ridiculous circus of clowns.

Maduro has no intelligence, Venezuela no longer has a "Comandate Presidente", but a "Chofer Presidente", that is a "Chauffeur President" because Nicolas Maduro was a bus driver and unionist that never studied anything.

His "Victory" speech was filled with aggression and fascism. He is unable to make a U-Turn on a dime a turnaround of 180 degrees in the conduction of Venezuela by means of fascism.

Expect a lot of Necrocracy ( ruling by dead corpses ) and Mausolocracy ( the ridiculous Mauseleums of death heroes ).

Expect the Venezuelan Economy going down the drain with more stupid price controls, as Venezuelans smuggle their products to Colombia where they get better prices in hard currencies : the U. S. Dollar and the Colombian Peso that is so hard that Colombian exporters weep and complain every day of "Revaluation" and that they get very few dollars for their exports because of the excessive price of the Colombian peso.

Colombia has a capitalist market economy, with diversified exports, while Venezuela is "Socialist of the 21 century" only exports oil, industry has been ruined by Chavez, Venezuela has continuous devaluations, inflation, price controls, loss of Competivity, lack of diversity, rampant statism, flagrant clientelism, nepotism and thievery. That is only good for Tax Havens, Tax Heavens, Fiscal Paradises in the Caribbean and Switzerland.

Iowa Hospital Association explains with beautiful cartoons and drawings why Iowa needs to insure as many Iowans as possible and the best way to do it is through Medicaid expansion.

From a business perspective, there are other reasons -- economic reasons -- for supporting Medicaid expansion. Watch this video and learn more about the economic impact of Medicaid expansion.

Ohio Governor, the Chambers of Commerce, the Medical Communities, Labor Unions, Prominent Businessmen, and most of the People want Medicaid Expansion for the State. But they have to overcome Republican Resistance, Republicans want more tax cuts for the Super Rich, but nothing for the Old, the Poor, Children, the Sick, the Unemployed, etc ..

They were a little soggy, but determined to tell House Republicans they're all wet for blocking Medicaid expansion. They need eleven more votes in the legislature to make their Dreams come True.

VIDEO, Venezuela : Presidential Candidate Capriles says that the Colombian FARC guerrillas are giving the armed order of voting for Venezuelan President Maduro, and that FARC murders and kidnaps inside Venezuela

.
Capriles wants to end the Reign of Terror of FARC :

Venezuela has Presidential Elections on Sunday, April 14, 2013, and Capriles, the candidate of Anti-Chavismo, says that Maduro and Chavez have allowed the FARC criminals to act inside Venezuelan Territory murdering and kidnapping cattle ranchers, businessmen and others.

Capriles attacks Maduro as a Liar and Friend of FARC Terrorists. It is possible that in Venezuelan States that border with Colombia FARC exerts armed pressure on Venezuelan Citizens to vote for leftist and quasi-communist Maduro ( Great Friend of Cuban Communists ).

My Comment :

Venezuela has fallen in the most despicable Fascism, Brutality and Dictatorship of Chavismo, and there is a possibility of an end to the nightmare on next Sunday, although the odds are against Capriles because of the anti Democratic Control of the Populace and the Rabble by Maduro using non-sanctum means.

By the way : Chavez always funded and supported politically in many public speeches the FARC Terrorists inside Colombia. He had many of these Terrorists as close friends inside Venezuela. The FARC terrorists have kidnapped and murdered many Venezuelan Citizens.

The FARC have killed and maimed thousands of Colombian Peasant Children with Land Mines that they sow in Agricultural Fields. You can see in VIDEOS and TV Clips many Children that have lost their legs or testicles.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s Jan. 14, 2013, state-of-the-state speech : "Not expanding Medicaid would mean that $2 billion of Arizona’s tax dollars would simply be passed to another state generating jobs and providing health care for citizens in California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico or any other expansion state."

.
My Comment :

Nobody can doubt that Governor Jan Brewer is very conservative and very combative. She does not love President Obama and is not a fan of ObamaCare.

All Federal Taxes go to the same shoebox, For example : Federal Taxes paid by Texans don't have necessarily to return to Texas.

If Texas fails to expand Medicaid, then the U. S. Federal Government can use the Money that was going to be paid to Texas Medicaid Expansion for any other purpose, like sending a rocket and vehicle to planet Mars, giving Military Aid to any country in the Middle East, or sending these Texan Federal Taxes to Arizona to help Governor Brewer pay for her Medicaid Expansion.

So the Texan Federal Tax Money may go to Planet Mars instead of Helping the Texan Poor.

Is this the "Legacy of Slavery" ???, that people in the South refuse to be "keepers of our brothers and sisters" ?? - History of "The Old" in America : From a very detailed wonderful History of Social Security in a U.S. Government Website :

.

By 1932 seventeen states had old age pension laws, although none were in the south, and 87% of the money available under these laws were expended in only three states (California, Massachusetts and New York). That was before the "New Deal" of President Franklin Roosevelt.

In 1929 of the six states with operating pension laws on the books only 53 of the 264 counties eligible to adopt a pension plan actually did so. After 1929, the States began enacting laws without county options.

So you see how the South has resisted helping the Old and the Poor. And you can also observe how many local governments harm their citizens by denying help. Like Texas that has refused for decades to receive Federal Funds for helping Children's Health, Education, etc ... until they throw the towel and surrender to reality !!

And now Republican Governors refuse the Federal Dollars for Medicaid Expansion with a lot of Ideological Useless Blather. This is nothing new and they always end up by surrendering to Reality and receiving the Federal Money after causing great harm to citizens.

And these ideologists against progress are thrown out to the Garbage Dump of History !!

Excerpt :

The real policy action at this point is in the states, where the question is, How many Americans will be denied essential health care in the name of freedom?

My Comment :

The Republican Party is now defined by 1) Supporting more tax cuts for the Super Rich - 2) Opposing any benefit from the Government and for the Poor - and 3) Saying that all these policies are for "Freedom". !

Houston Chronicle : Texas on the Potomac : Detailed Political Maps of Texas Counties in colors according to inclinations - Extreme South is Blue ( Democrat ), North is deep red ( Republican ) - If Latino Turnout improves then the Blue extends to the center of the Map

If Texas Latinos had same turnout rate as Anglos, the state would already be ‘purple’ :

"What If" Analysis of Texas Counties : Detailed Statistical and Mathematical Analysis - There are Grey Areas at the center to be snatched by Democrats from Republicans if they wake up Hispanics. Who are in danger in next elections ??

It is not a matter of only gaining Hispanics for the Democratic Party : Other Minorities, Blacks, Asians, Native Americans, etc .... also count and can turn things around.

It is very difficult to "Turn Texas Blue", but Democrats can win little by little in the "Gray" counties of Texas Map, where the conditions are not so powerful and strong for Republicans. And Democrats can elect local officials, even U.S. House Representatives and go for the Big Prize of a U. S. Senator sooner than later.

Paul Krugman : "To deal with the crisis that’s already here, we need monetary and fiscal stimulus, to induce those who aren’t too deeply indebted to spend more while the debtors are cutting back." - Anti-Keynesians want to liquidate the Poor

.
Excerpts :

When the Great Depression struck, many influential people argued that the government shouldn’t even try to limit the damage. According to Herbert Hoover, Andrew Mellon, his Treasury secretary, urged him to “Liquidate labor, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers. ... It will purge the rottenness out of the system.” Don’t try to hasten recovery, warned the famous economist Joseph Schumpeter, because “artificial stimulus leaves part of the work of depressions undone.”

Like many economists, I used to quote these past luminaries with a certain smugness. After all, modern macroeconomics had shown how wrong they were, and we wouldn’t repeat the mistakes of the 1930s, would we?

How naïve we were. It turns out that the urge to purge — the urge to see depression as a necessary and somehow even desirable punishment for past sins, while inveighing against any attempt to mitigate suffering — is as strong as ever. Indeed, Mellonism is everywhere these days. Turn on CNBC or read an op-ed page, and the odds are that you won’t see someone arguing that the federal government and the Federal Reserve are doing too little to fight mass unemployment. Instead, you’re much more likely to encounter an alleged expert ranting about the evils of budget deficits and money creation, and denouncing Keynesian economics as the root of all evil.

HuffPost : Social Security finished Elderly Poverty : Between 1925 and 1932 in Connecticut, New York and Wisconsin, nearly half of elderly people lived on less than $25 per month, which was "insufficient subsistence income."

.

Excerpts :

A third in Connecticut had no income at all, the rate may have been close to 80 percent. But by 1974, elderly poverty had fallen below 15 percent and by 1995 it had dropped to 10.

"Our analysis suggests that the growth in Social Security can indeed explain all of the decline in poverty among the elderly over this period," concluded Gary Engelhardt and Jonathan Gruber in a 2004 National Bureau of Economic Research report on the program.

Obama's USA - European Union Free Trade Agreement - American Big Corporations challenging the Canadian Government on offshore oil drilling, hydraulic fracturing ("fracking"), rules for the use of pesticides and patents for company's medications

.
Conspiracy Theory : Will Big International Corporations rule the World to erase Environmental Protections of Governments and earn money with patents for longer periods ?? - This seems a little crazy like a "Roswell Flying Saucer" or "Ancient Astronauts".

Internet is boiling with Crazy Conspiracy Theories of a World Order in which most people will be slaves. If the theories are false and absurd then this can be an attack against Free Trade, Economic Progress, and International Friendship and Understanding.

Will the little people of the World ( 99% ) be the slaves of the Super Rich Plutocrats ( 1% ) ??

Excerpts from the HuffPost :

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been advocating for a new trade deal between the U.S. and EU for more than a year, and President Barack Obama endorsed the project in his 2013 State of the Union address.

******************************

But companies have grown increasingly ambitious in recent years, with major outfits including Exxon Mobil and Dow Chemical challenging Canadian rules that apply to offshore oil drilling, hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") and the use of pesticides. In December, drug giant Eli Lilly brought a NAFTA case against the Canadian government after it invalidated a patent for one of the company's medications.

"The Chapter 11 investor state arbitration mechanism provided for in NAFTA has been used more than 60 times since the treaty was signed," Eli Lilly spokesman Michael McDougall told HuffPost in a written statement. "Many trade treaties have dispute resolution and compensation mechanisms. We believe the current test for determining whether an invention is 'useful' under the patent statute in Canada has become deeply flawed, inconsistent with international norms and treaties, and needs correction."

Companies have won some of those rulings, but opponents of investor-state rules argue that the mere threat of an international case can be enough to dissuade governments from adopting or enforcing important rules.

U.S. Rep. Joaquín Castro, D-San Antonio, Texas, is becoming the toughest political enemy of Governor Rick Perry : "Give up the swagger and get serious. - Negotiate in earnest with the Obama administration." ( reported in mySanAntonio.com )

.

Thanks to Perry's intransigence in Medicaid Expansion a little Latino grows and grows in Texas and becomes well known : A new rising democrat political star with the most acid and caustic tongue. Joaquín Castro is becoming very prominent lately and Texas Newspapers love his verbal bravery, courage and gallantry. This is the political antithesis of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, that is also aggressive but for wrong causes.

According to the The Dallas Morning News :  Joaquin Castro also said : "Governor Perry, being tough on people with no health insurance won’t win you the Republican presidential primary in 2016. It definitely won’t win you the presidency."

Joaquin Castro said that Perry's concerns about Medicaid Expansion are “a red herring” and noted that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Florida Gov. Rick Scott, among other Republican governors, have determined that Medicaid expansion makes sense for their states.

Joaquin Castro added recently :

"Medicaid programs are managed by the states. It is disingenuous for Perry to suggest to the residents of Texas that Medicaid is broken without acknowledging the very deliberate actions he has taken to systematically dismantle this program during his tenure as the longest-serving governor in Texas history. The state cut over $2 billion from Medicaid and CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) in 2011 alone. Medicaid fees have consistently been slashed, discouraging health care providers from participating in the program to the point where barely 31 percent of doctors in Texas are taking on new Medicaid patients."

Paul Krugman : California's G.O.P. has fallen below critical mass, losing even its power to obstruct — and this has left Governor Jerry Brown free to push an agenda of tax hikes and infrastructure spending that sounds remarkably like the kind of thing California used to do before the rise of the radical right

.

Excerpts :

California isn’t a state in which liberals have run wild; it’s a state where a liberal majority has been effectively hamstrung by a fanatical conservative minority that, thanks to supermajority rules, has been able to block effective policy-making.

And that’s where things get really interesting — because the era of hamstrung government seems to be coming to an end. Over the years, California’s Republicans moved right as the state moved left, yet retained political relevance thanks to their blocking power. But at this point the state’s G.O.P. has fallen below critical mass, losing even its power to obstruct — and this has left Mr. Brown free to push an agenda of tax hikes and infrastructure spending that sounds remarkably like the kind of thing California used to do before the rise of the radical right.

And if this agenda is successful, it will have national implications. After all, California’s political story — in which a radicalized G.O.P. fell increasingly out of touch with an increasingly diverse and socially liberal electorate, and eventually found itself marginalized — is arguably playing out with a lag on the national scene too.

So is California still the place where the future happens first? Stay tuned.
