Thanks to Perry's intransigence in Medicaid Expansion a little Latino grows and grows in Texas and becomes well known : A new rising democrat political star with the most acid and caustic tongue. Joaquín Castro is becoming very prominent lately and Texas Newspapers love his verbal bravery, courage and gallantry. This is the political antithesis of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, that is also aggressive but for wrong causes.
According to the The Dallas Morning News : Joaquin Castro also said : "Governor Perry, being tough on people with no health insurance won’t win you the Republican presidential primary in 2016. It definitely won’t win you the presidency."
Joaquin Castro said that Perry's concerns about Medicaid Expansion are “a red herring” and noted that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Florida Gov. Rick Scott, among other Republican governors, have determined that Medicaid expansion makes sense for their states.
Joaquin Castro added recently :
"Medicaid programs are managed by the states. It is disingenuous for Perry to suggest to the residents of Texas that Medicaid is broken without acknowledging the very deliberate actions he has taken to systematically dismantle this program during his tenure as the longest-serving governor in Texas history. The state cut over $2 billion from Medicaid and CHIP (the Children’s Health Insurance Program) in 2011 alone. Medicaid fees have consistently been slashed, discouraging health care providers from participating in the program to the point where barely 31 percent of doctors in Texas are taking on new Medicaid patients."
