Two VIDEOs Texas, Joaquin Castro, brother of San Antonio's Mayor, will run in the Democratic Primary against Nine-term, liberal congressman Lloyd Doggett - this thanks to the Republicans gerrymandering to oust Doggett

.
Texas Republicans are awakening the sleeping giant or are feeding the ( Democratic Party ) dragon that is going to eat them ??

Castro's grandmother fled the Mexican Revolution and worked in the USA as a maid to support the Children. Castro does not know if she was legal or illegal !.

Don't blame Joaquin Castro or the Latinos - Blame the Republicans ( Geniuses or Fools ) that drew the redistricting map to oust Doggett. By doing so they created a biased playing field that favors Joaquin Castro. By changing his district and constituency Doggett may be in danger.

Rep. Joaquin Castro's bid to defeat Doggett in the March Democratic primary for the new 35th Congressional District that stretches from Southeast Austin into San Antonio, where Castro is from. - GOP lawmakers drew the district to oust Doggett, who will move from his current district (which becomes heavily Republican) to run in the new 35th.

Trouble for Doggett? In new district, Dems may seek new blood

Some excerpts :

As Castro mingled, Joey Cardenas of Louise, 10 miles southwest of El Campo, who is state director of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said he continues to admire Doggett, but ...

"The time has come for an older generation to hand the baton over to a newer generation," Cardenas said. "And Joaquin certainly is the future of Texas. He is the face of the future of Texas. And I think that future needs to be here a lot sooner than later."

The district seems to favor Castro, 36. Fifty-eight percent of the voting-age population is Hispanic. There are more people in the Bexar County part — where Castro's twin brother, Julian, is San Antonio mayor — than the Travis County part.

"The moment is now," say Castro's campaign signs, some in English, some in Spanish, all showing his beaming face amid what look like sun rays.

"I have great respect for the congressman," Castro said of Doggett in reply to an audience question. "He has had a very distinguished career in office. He actually was elected, I think, to the state Legislature the year before I was born, in 1973, so he's had a long and distinguished career." The line, offered in respect, drew a few laughs.
