President Obama pushes infrastructure repair, blasts Congress

Some excerpts :

President Barack Obama traveled two miles west of the White House Wednesday to blast congressional Republicans who have obstructed the American Jobs Act since he introduced it nearly two months ago.

Quoting top congressional Republicans and former President Ronald Reagan, the president stressed that infrastructure repair and construction is a national prerogative, one that should have bipartisan support when a piece of his jobs bill comes up for a Senate vote later in the week.

“If the Speaker of the House, the Republican leader in the Senate, all the Democrats, all say that this is important to do, why aren’t we doing it? What’s holding us back? Let’s get moving and put America back to work,” Obama said in a morning speech on the banks of the Potomac River, the Key Bridge behind him crossing from the District of Columbia to Virginia.

Obama also attacked Congress, which he has in other settings derided as “do-nothing,” for spending time voting for commemorative baseball coins and to reaffirm the “In God we trust” motto while more pressing economic issues weigh on the country. “That’s not putting people back to work,” he said. “I trust in God, but God wants to see us help ourselves by putting people back to work.”
